General Information

The optimal brain function can be achieved by supplementing with nootropics or smart drugs such as Piracetam, Modafinil and Armodafinil. Hereby, taking the right dosage plays a crucial role. This is shown in the following graph, wherein an optimum is reached at a certain concentration of a substance. Concentration enhancing substances can be extremely beneficial for our mental capacity. At least, to a certain extent. If the administred dose is too high, the user experiences more undesired side effects. On the other hand, if the dose is too low, the effects are absent or less apparent. The optimal dose exists somewhere inbetween.

Depending on the neurochemistry of an individual, a higher or lower dose of nootropics will lead to the most desirable effects. Considering every brain is different, variations between individuals exist in optimal doses. Hence, people suffering from attention deficit disorders like ADHD will require a higher amount of concentration enhancing substances. And people with average concentration capacity will need lower amounts. The required dose also depends on the mental state of an individual at the given moment. And finally, the type of product is an additional factor for the variations between optimal doses. The message is to find your optimum. In this way you will experience the ultimate advantage of smart drugs and nootropics.

Modafinil/ Armodafinil Dosage

The concentrations can be divided in categories depending on the effects they produce. The differences between Modafinil and Armodafinil are solely due to the varying doses they require to evoke the same effects.

Doses of Modafinil are usually between 50 and 200mg. Lower concentrations from 50 to 100mg produce subtle cognitive enhancing effects. Therefore, these doses are recommended for beginners. Mild fatigue and brain fog can be reduced. The average dose is 100mg. At this dosage, fatigue is mitigated. Improvements in alertness, focus and mental stamina are notable. Many users prefer the 100mg dose because of the subtle, yet beneficial effects it produces.

Modafinil can be used to treat ADHD. For this purpose, doses of 100 to 200mg are extremely beneficial. Doses of 200mg are usually prescribed for the treatment of narcolepsy. Excessive fatigue is alleviated and the attention span is prolonged. Overall, doses of 200mg are well-tolerated by people. This is why many users opt for the strong potency of the 200mg dose. It is advised not to exceed the 200mg limit. Studies show that increasing the dosage over 200mg does not lead to increased mental capacity. On the contrary, it leads to more negative side effects.

Modafinil should be taken in the morning. This way, there is little chance of disturbing the natural sleeping pattern. It is discouraged to take 100mg or more 10 hours before sleep. Also keep in mind that the half-life of Modalert is longer than Modvigil, which might influence the duration of effects and the required dose.

Summary Modafinil

50mg - 100mg (¼ to ½ pill): for enhancing cognition and nootropic purposes;

100mg - 200mg (½ to 1 pill): longer-lasting cognitive enhancement, treating narcolepsy and ADHD;

Up to 400mg (2 pills): not recommended, users experience more side effects without increasing the positive effects.

For the effects of Armodafinil we refer to Modafinil. The recommended dose for a beginner is 75 to 100mg. This dose is sufficient to get an idea of the effects. Afterwards, the dose can be changed depending on the desired effects. For treating sleeping disorders or ADHD, 150 to 200mg are advised. Taking more than 300mg is strongly discouraged. Studies show that higher doses do not lead to increased positive effects, but more negative side effects. Furthermore, the half-life of Armodafinil is very long, which is why high doses will lead to disturbed sleeping patterns.

Just like Modafinil, Armodafinil is advised to be administred in the morning. It is vital to note that users find Artvigil more intense than Waklert. This should be taken into account when determining the dosage.

100mg – 150mg (¾ to 1 pill): for cognitive enhancing and nootropic like effects;

150mg – 225mg (1 to 1 ½ pill): for sleep apnea, treating narcolepsy and ADHD;

Up to 300mg (2 pills): not recommended, sleeping patterns may be disturbed.

Important to consider is the half-life of a substance. The half-life provides information about the duration of the effects of an active compound. The graph on the bottom of the page shows the concentration of a substance in the blood over time. Shortly after administration, a peak concentration (Cmax) is reached. At the peak, the caused effects are the strongest. The body starts breaking down the substance and the concentration decreases slowly over time. When the peak concentration has been decreased by half, the half-life of a substance is reached. Thus, the half-life indicates the amount of time the body needs to eliminate a substance. On the other hand, the threshold of effects indicates the concentration at which the provoked effects are noticeable. These two parameters usually lie close to each other. However, the half-life does not exactly represent the duration of effects. It provides an estimation about when the effects start to wear off. This is important to take into consideration.

Because of the long half-life of Modafinil and Armodafinil, it is strongly recommended to take these substances in the morning.
